Africa – Togo

Anthropologist : Marc Augé (EHESS)

The voodoo gods of Togo are not easily understood separate from their materializations. Contrary to the god of monotheist religion, the “voodoo” are powers which can be manipulated and invested into fabricated objects. These are concentrations of numerous ingredients, material as well as immaterial, such as knowledge.
